| Alcossebre |
Alcossebre is a small pretty villiage situated in the natural park Sierra de Irta. The town is typically Spanish, with a thriving population of about 6000 people with many shops, restaurants and banks as well as its own weekly market on a Tuesday afternoon/evening. The community is welcoming and friendly and as you might expect there are plenty of local festivals where the whole community join together to celebrate various events. Alcossebre has a number of dunes, white and golden sandy beaches as well as natural and untouched beaches totalling 10 kilometers. Four beaches have been presented with Blue Flags for their quality, facilities and cleanliness. The dunes are protected and recently a board walk has been constructed to protect the dunes and the wildlife further. These beaches have a much higher ecological value when compared to other Mediterranean coastlines. Alcossebre has a long and important history within the Maestrazgo region. Alcossebre and Las Fuentes are sheltered by a 312 metre high mountain called "San Benet" if you drive up there you willl have a fantastic panoramic view of the coast and inland areas. On a clear day you will be able to see the Columbretes Islands, San Antonio in Alicante. |

The photo above was taken 5th December 2007 at sunset, from the mountain San Benet that shelters Alcossebre. On this mountain (see in picture below ) is a lovely church Santa Ermita if you have a car its well worth a drive up here for the stunning veiws over Alcossebre, Las Fuentes and the National Park. |
